With the beginning of COVID-19 vaccine availability, the Knox County Health Department (KCHD) has been experiencing extremely high call volume as well as dramatic increases in email and social media requests for information. As trusted community partners, KCHD wanted to begin sending out weekly updates with testing and vaccine information so that you have the most current information to give clients and community members who may have questions.
Currently, the vaccine supply is limited and we are working through vaccinating Phases 1a1, 1a2 and those who are 75 years and older. Yesterday, KCHD announced the availability of scheduled appointments for Tuesday, 1/5, Thursday 1/7 and Friday 1/8 for community members 75 and older. Those appointments have all been filled (and filled quickly, as was expected). Additional vaccination opportunities for next week will be announced as more vaccine is received.
It’s important to remember that KCHD is just one of many providers who will eventually help make vaccine more available in the community. Much like COVID-19 testing at the beginning of the pandemic, it took time for it to be widely available. KCHD will continue to deploy multiple strategies to provide vaccine, including continued appointment opportunities as well as large, public vaccine clinics.
We appreciate your assistance in helping to relay accurate and up-to-date information to community members. Please reach out to us if you have any questions.
